Calibrating the Emerging Economy: Economic Clusters for Regional Growth and Development

On March 11, we will kick-off the first in a series of three programs designed to inform and engage representatives of business, education, economic development, workforce development, and transitioning professionals in the details of the new economy.

The first program will feature presentations by Steve Johnson, Senior Vice President for Economic Development at the St. Louis RCGA and Mary Bruton, Research Analyst for the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center.  Steve will describe recent research conducted for the RCGA by Market Street Services, which identified key industry cluster strengths and directions for the region, going forward.  Mary will provide information on regional industry and occupational estimates and forecasts through the year 2018.  Business leaders will respond with their own perspectives on talent management in this time of change.

The second and third programs will focus on Economic Development Tools and Strategies in the New Marketplace (April 7) and Developing and Re-developing Talent to Meet Changing Market Demands (April 28).

Business services jobs are predicted to grow significantly between now and 2018. These
positions span the ‘business end’ of all industries, including health care, retail, transportation,
manufacturing, government, and education. They include business developers, managers and
analysts; human resources and fiscal operations specialists; administrative professionals and
office support; IT support services staff, and more.

The March 17th program is the second of a two-part series on how to land a business services jobs.  We will be talking about positions that span the ‘business end’ of all industries, including health care, retail, transportation, manufacturing, government, and education.  They include business developers, managers and analysts; human resources and fiscal operations specialists; administrative professionals; IT support services, and more.  If you missed the first session, not to worry: you can still pick up many useful tips and techniques at the second.

We will cover:

  • how to use social media to get in front of the right people
  • how to ace an interview
  • success stories from other transitioning professionals.
